The City operates an emergency warning siren system. The purpose of the system is to alert the public of tornados and severe weather. The system is designed to be heard by people who are outside and would otherwise have access to weather warnings via the television or radio. In this way, the current system is different from the old civil defense sirens that were once used.
There are currently 12 sirens as part of the City's system.
