Sexual Harassment Free Workplace

WHEREAS, the City of Canton is committed to providing an orderly workplace and to ensuring the civil rights of all employees; and

WHEREAS, sexual harassment is against the law; and
 
WHEREAS, as the Chief Executive Officer of Canton, Ohio, the Mayor is charged with the ultimate responsibility of supervising and directing the day-to-day affairs of City Departments and Offices as prescribed by the Ohio Revised Code and Codified Ordinances of the City of Canton; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. Healy, II, Mayor of the City of Canton, under the authority conferred by the State of Ohio order that all City of Canton employees shall work in an environment free from all forms of sexual harassment as defined by the Sexual Harassment Free Pledge, fully incorporated herein by reference.  

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that sexual harassment refers not only to supervisor-subordinate actions, but also actions between co-workers and actions with citizens.

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that sexual harassment shall not be tolerated and that there shall not be any intimidation, discrimination or retaliation against any employee who makes a report of sexual harassment.

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that if an employee believes s/he is being subjected to sexual harassment or believes s/he is being treated differently because s/he is not engaging in sexual favors in exchange for receiving favored treatment, the person shall report the information pursuant to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and/or directly to the Office of Compliance and the matter shall be promptly investigated.
