Executive Order 2009-010

Computer Network System & Electronic Communications

WHEREAS, the City of Canton is committed to providing an orderly workplace with standards and policies for all employees regarding the use of any computer, communication system and/or equipment owned, operated or controlled by the City of Canton; and

WHEREAS, the use of unlicensed software is illegal and punishable by law; and

WHEREAS, as the Chief Executive Officer of Canton, Ohio, the Mayor is charged with the ultimate responsibility of supervising and directing the day-to-day affairs of City Departments and Offices as prescribed by the Ohio Revised Code and Codified Ordinances of the City of Canton; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. Healy, II, Mayor of the City of Canton, under the authority conferred by the State of Ohio order that all City of Canton employees shall only use lawfully obtained software on all City owned computers, communication systems, equipment and shall not inappropriately use City owned computer resources.

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that no employee shall use any City Computer Network System and Electronic Communications for any illegal activity and any software determined to be illegal shall be immediately removed from City owned computers.

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that no employee shall sell, offer to sale or otherwise convey illegal software or City owned software to other persons and/or organizations.

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that no City employee shall install any software on any City computer without the direct written permission of the Director of Communications.

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that this order shall be made known to all present and future employees and shall be posted in conspicuous places in each City of Canton Department and Office.
