SWAT Team

The Canton Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team works in conjunction with the Patrol Division, the Detective Bureau, and the Special Investigations Unit to apprehend dangerous criminals, conduct drug raids, and enter volatile law enforcement situations. The team further offers support to the Training Bureau and outside agencies when requested.

Monthly Training

In addition to multiple role activations, the team members participate in a monthly training schedule of sixteen hours, in which they train and prepare for any situation that may arise. Officers are also assigned to yearly and specialized training cycles. 

Through adherence to sound core and advanced training standards, weapons implementation, and discipline, the command staff requires leadership from within the team ranks to maintain a high level of efficiency. Assigned SWAT Team Operators are also cross-trained with additional duties including:

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Hostage Negotiator
  • Incident Commander
  • K-9 Handler
  • Sniper

Members of the Team

The SWAT Team consists of an authorized complement of:

  • A Chaplain
  • A Commander
  • An Assistant Commander
  • A Team Leader
  • Fourteen Operators

They utilize an armored vehicle and a mobile command post vehicle to carry out their operations.
