15th Street SW Bridge Replacement Project

CANTON, OHIO – 15th Street SW Bridge Replacement

The City of Canton proposes to replace the existing bridge on 15th Street SW in the City, Stark County. The existing structure is a 2-span continuous steel beam bridge with a reinforced concrete deck and modified concrete substructure built in 1946 over West Branch Nimishillen Creek. The new structure will be a single span galvanized rolled steel beam bridge with a composite concrete deck on new semi-integral abutments founded on steel cast-in-place piles, on a similar alignment and skew. Work includes approach pavement reconstruction, replacement of existing sidewalks, and rock channel protection. The new structure will clear the 25-year design high-water elevation. Permanent and temporary right-of-way will likely be required for this project. Closure of 15th Street SW will be required for approximately 150 days. A detour will be provided. Construction is expected to begin spring 2023 and last approximately 5 months.

The City welcomes your questions and comments on this project. Issues you may wish to comment on include, but are not limited to, the effect of the project on location, residents, air quality, the local economy, floodplain, historic, archaeological, and ecological resources, and hazardous materials. If right-of-way is required from your property; you will be contacted by the City directly to discuss the effect on your property and explain the acquisition process.

Written comments or questions on the proposed project are requested by December 15, 2021 (30 days), to ensure your comments may be considered during project development. Please submit your comments to the City at:
